Common questions

How does Officer Otto work?

You set up a profile for your child (name, age, a few facts). You pick a character and a scenario — bedtime, brushing teeth, sibling fight, kindness wins, etc. The app shows an incoming call screen, and you hand your phone to your child. The character has a 90-second conversation with them, calling them by name and reacting to what they say. After the call, you see a transcript and any new memories the character recorded.

You can also chat privately with any character from the parent side, for parenting brainstorming. Your child never sees these chats.

Is this safe for my kid?

We've designed safety in from the start. Every character is constrained at the prompt level never to threaten removal, mention jail or arrest, label the child as bad, or talk about anything off-scenario. A post-generation filter blocks anything that slips through. Every call ends on a positive note within 90 seconds, with a hard cap of 2 calls per child per day.

That said: this is a tool, not a substitute for parenting. We strongly recommend staying nearby during calls and debriefing with your kid afterward — let them know it was a fun pretend conversation.

Not for kids under 3.

What does Officer Otto remember?

After each call, a short summary is created (promises made, things shared, emotional context) and saved to the kid's memory under that specific character. Sophie's Officer Otto remembers things differently from her brother's Officer Otto — each character is bound to a specific child.

You can review every memory in the app's "What Otto knows about [your kid]" screen and edit, delete, or pin anything. Unpinned memories expire after 90 days.

How do I delete my account or data?

In the app: Settings → Delete account. This removes your profile, your child profiles, all memories, transcripts, and call history within 30 days.

If you can't access the app, email v7canvas@gmail.com from the address you signed up with and we'll delete your account manually.

Is the call audio saved?

No. Your child's voice is processed during the call so the character can respond, then discarded. The transcript (text only) is saved if you choose to save it — you can delete it anytime.

Why does it ask for microphone access?

Because the character needs to hear your child to have a real conversation. Microphone access is only active during the actual 90-second call — never in the background.

Why do I need to sign in?

So your child profiles, memories, and call history can sync to your account and follow you across devices. We support Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google. We don't ask for or store passwords.

Is it free?

Yes — version 1.0 is free, with no in-app purchases. Future versions may introduce paid tiers (Pro and Family) for unlimited calls and persistent memory, with advance notice.

I found a bug / want to suggest a feature.

Wonderful, please tell us! Email v7canvas@gmail.com with as much detail as you can — what you did, what happened, what you expected. Screenshots help a ton.

My kid said something concerning during a call.

The app is a creative tool — please reach out to a pediatrician or family therapist for anything that feels serious. If you're in crisis in the US, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is free and confidential, 24/7.
